M. Chapoutier:
The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.

My boss - who was trying to educate my palate, but who didn't drink wine herself - bought a bottle of this for me while on a business trip at the bar at the Four Seasons hotel in New York. At that point in my life I'd probably only ever tried one serious Bordeaux.. in college. Anyway it was transporting. I couldn't finish it however, as valiantly as I tried, and she offered the rest of the bottle to the waiter. I haven't tasted it since.

Elegant and sophisticated by the nose, with blackcurrant aroma. In mooth it's really full and well balanced, around plum and old red fruits. Very dense, superb finish.

Nwe Yearls Eve 2009 Big aroma plums and dark chocolate also in the mouth but an overriding discordant note. Good with roast beef but far from overwhelming

Performing well from bottle Chateau Margaux s 2001 which is somewhat reminiscent of both the 1985 and 1999 is an elegant seamlessly constructed effort with a deep ruby/purple color and a beautiful nose of flowers creme de cassis blackberries and cedar. A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon 7% Merlot 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc this forward opulent beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years. This is one of the most elegant wines of the vintage. Robert Parkers Wine Advo

Enticing aromas of boysenberry cedar espresso and roasted oak. Sweet lush and broad in the mouth with sappy berry and espresso flavors. This boasts the pliant texture and near-perfect balance of the vintage s best examples. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins. Like so many 2001s this is easy to taste today but may well close down in the coming year or so. "The 2001 is a smiley wine " says Pontallier "while the 2002 though a bit stiff today has more power and excellent aging potential

Subtle and very perfumed with floral currants minerals and berry aromas with a hint of toasted barrels. Medium- to full-bodied with an outstandingly refined core of fruit and smoky earthy berry and almost meaty character. It s long and caressing... Wine Spectator.

Fresh and floral with hints of berries and vanilla. Medium-bodied with silky tannins and a fresh fruity finish. Refined. Second wine of Margaux. Best after 2007. 20 000 cases made. -JS Wine Spectator.
