What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

Notes on the Silver Oak Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 1995 : WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: 91 POINTS Wonderful sense of balance, harmony and finesse, with ripe, polished cedary currant, plum and black cherry. Finishes with supple tannins and a whiff of dill. Drink now through 2009. 10,400 cases made. Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 90, May/June 2000 Medium red-ruby. Dark fruit aromas overwhelmed by tar and scotch oak tones, plus charry notes of dark chocolate and coffee bean. Juicy but dry and lacking flesh; where's the fruit? The slightly green finish is dried by oak. This was rather lean a year ago from barrel, and appears not to have entirely survived the extended sojourn in wood. I may be congenitally unable to appreciate the Silver Oak style.

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 95A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa has turned out even better than the 1994. It possesses a more saturated ruby/purple color, as well as a more flamboyant and exotic bouquet. Moreoever, it seems less evolved. Full-bodied and pure, with layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits, smoke, cedar, and toast, it should drink well for 16-17 years.

Dark Ruby to garnet color and a complex nose of blackbery jam, chocolate, roasted coffee, sandalwood and nutmeg. It has a full body and a rich elegant finish with nicely integrated tannins. It will continue to get smoother over the next months and will improve for 15-20 years.

The superb 1995 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon reveals huge richness, massive body, and layers of unctuously-textured, thick, jammy, blackcurrant fruit. It should be a knock-out Cabernet Sauvignon, with even more sweetness and richness of fruit than ... Robert Parker. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 1995 Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 750ml
