Rising from the resurgent Lodi Appellation, Michael~David Winery produces some of the finest award-winning varietal wines in California. We are six generations of winegrowers specializing in hand-crafted Rhone varietals as well as Lodi's famous Old Vine Zinfandels. Our tasting room, café and farmer's fresh market are located just 30 minutes south of Sacramento and one hour east of the Bay Area. Enjoy!
The first thing that caught me about this wine was what wafted up from the bottle the second the cork was free. ”Coffee ice cream,” were the first words out of my mouth. The aroma was huge, and totally pleasing. It was rich, lush, jammy and dominated by coffee and black cherries. The signature Zinfandel spice was there as well, and in the form of black pepper and something like allspice or nutmeg. It was awesome. Blackberry and black cherry dominated this very full-bodied wine, but it had great balance. Everything I wanted was there. The jammy fruits, cream, coffee, sweet spices (like you find in Christmas cookies), and pepper. 7 Deadly has an incredible mouth feel, smooth tannins, and a long velvety finish, and I want to share it with everybody, without driving up the price, or slashing supply, of course. The consistency from bottle to bottle is perfect, and often a result and benefit of blended wines, which I love. It is also about $14 a bottle. my blog: http://corksandcaftans.wordpress.com/category/corks/
Fruit forward with smooth tannic finish and a bit of pepper. Perfect by itself or paired with deep, dark chocolate, it is quite delish!
I have to admit, I wasn't expecting the spicy smokey finish I got the first time around, but I really enjoy it! To me, it's not one of your typical Zins.
Excellent Zin. Smokey...spicy..oaky
