Dense and dark, this is a fuller, heartier style of Shiraz, deliciously peppery and loaded with dark berry flavors. 3 Rings is a joint venture among Dan Philips, David Hickinbotham and winemaker Chris Ringland, 100 percent Barossa from several old vine vineyards blended beautifully by Chris Ringland. Its dense purple color is accompanied by a flamboyant, extroverted bouquet of blackberries, white flowers, earth, and background oak. The wine offers pure, supple, blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with hints of graphite and camphor.
Bright and youthful, with blackberry and cedar flavors, finishing with crisp tannins. Best after 2007.
Deep ruby. Candied dark berry and kirsch aromas, with slow-building fruitcake and roasted coffee qualities. Thick and almost syrupy, with fat blackberry, bitter cherry and chocolate fudge flavors, a vaguely herbal character and no apparent acidity or tannins. Clings to the palate on the finish like a fruit syrup. This is the style that has made modern Australia's reputation, for better or worse. Fans of elegant wines will likely find this shiraz alarmingly viscous and cloyingly sweet - not to mention lacking in energy and finesse - but it does have its fans.
There are 14,000 cases of the 2006 Shiraz, a wine sourced from three Barossa vineyards. The wine was aged in seasoned American oak. Opaque purple colored, it offers up a jammy perfume of cedar, spice box, violets, blueberry, and blackberry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied wine made in a surprisingly elegant style. Supple-textured, full-flavored, with well-integrated tannin, this hedonistic effort will evolve for 3-5 years but can be enjoyed now and over the next 10 years.

Smooth and graceful, offering a fairly plush mouthful of plum, blackberry and a nice hint of peppermint as the finish rolls on. Has a purity and focus thatandrsquo;s beguiling. Drink now through 2016.
