What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Warm and ripe with a juicy, roast meaty edge and smoky, little caramelized wood tones Gains freshness in the glass with distinct floral top notes and intense warm black raspberry and ollalieberry notes that gain an exotic persimmon tone. Low acid, rich and soft, dense with a very ripe feel but fresh flavors. A bit of wood tannin is a touch out of balance and a bit too assertive. Very nice minor liquory wild red berry/cranberry flavors, then finishes with a strong herbal/rhubarb vein. Lovely baking spice notes and a touch of watermelon on the finale. The 2007 Pinot Noir showcases aromas and flavors of bright raspberry, ripe strawberry, and dustyspices leading to a rich, juicy, well-balanced mouthfeel. A food friendly and very approachable wine, enjoy this Pinot Noir with baked penne, roasted vegetables or pork short ribs.

Aromatic with raspberries, chalky minerals. Nice, silky texture. Full, meaty midpalate that remains in balance between game, raspberry, Bing cherry, and mineral notes. Allspice and clove emerge, coming forward in the finish. Nice wine, good balance, very good QPR.
