What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

2006 Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Rich and creamy, both in flavor and texture, bold and extracted, with fleshy fig, apricot and light nutmeg shadings. Bold, ripe and delicious, with tiers of cirtus-laced pear, pineapple, lemon drop and nectarine, yet for all its richness and depth, this is an elegantly styled wine that is graceful and polished.

This is a wine that offers layers of flamboyant flavors on an initial taste while more delicate layers emerge as the wine develops in the glass--aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, Fuji apple, apricot, and exotic flavors of the tropics. The underlying acidity is integrated with warm, toasty oak, and the whole package is tied up with a long, mouth-pleasing finish. Medium to full-bodied with notes of honeyed pineapple, nectarine, and some spice, the wine exhibits good acidity, purity and plenty of length. Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate
