What to Expect

Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.

Winemakers Notes

Tasting Notes
2005 produced wines of stellar power and concentration whilst remaining perfectly balanced. The 2005 Ares is no exception.

Black to the core in colour.

Very complex amalgam of aromas such as; licorice, tar, earth, cedar chocolate and the blackest of fruits such as boysenberry, blackberry and fresh prunes.

Incredibly viscous and concentrated with excellent poise and balance for such a powerful wine, the acid and tannins working in perfect harmony. The tannins are integrated throughout and will help the wine mature gracefully.

Lithe and supple. A silky red, with a focused beam of blackberry, plum and subtle spice that points right through the long, juicy finish. Best from 2008 through 2013. 5,000 cases made. -HS Wine Spectator. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2005 Two Hands Shiraz Gnarly Dudes 750ml

Dark purple in color with aromas of blackberry, plum, licorice and spice. In the mouth, concentrated blackberry, pepper and spice flavors finish long with a silky mouthfeel. Delicious.

Wine Skinny

Intense and tightly wound, with focused black currant, blueberry, spices and toast that linger on the generous finish. Decant now. Should continue to age nicely for five or six years.

Gnarly Dudes is named for the gnarly old vines that stand around all lifetime long looking like they are soldiers ready to be led into battle. Year in and year out they throw a crop of beautiful fruit that is tamed and put into this wine. Shiraz grapes, mature vines and the Barossa Valley, there is nothing quite like it. Color: Deep black with a slight purple hue. Aroma: Vibrant lifted notes of red berries and rich plum with hints of clove and spice followed by a subtle influence of oak. Taste: A lush mouth filling palate backed by a core of rich red to purple fruits. Shows a great deal of intensity, but the read more...
