The Rochioli single vineyard Chardonnays are uniformly outstanding. I rate the 2005 South River just a tad behind the 2005 River Block Vineyard overall, but it is still a superb Chardonnay. It displays cascades of honeyed fruit, great ripeness and viscosity yet with the perfect balance of fresh acidity and minerals. Touches of sweet straw and saffron along with subtle cinnamon and vanilla spice complement the ripe peachy fruit.
