What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Its dense ruby/purple hue is accompanied by abundant quantities of cassis, blackberries, licorice, smoke, and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, deep, and pure with a voluptuous texture, velvety tannins, and low acidity, it should drink well over the next 5-6 years. On the nose, scents of black raspberry, dark cherry and black fig are counter-pointed by savory notes of black and white pepper, Oolong tea and crushed rose in a sweet-natured display, while black raspberry, brandied cherry, pepper and rose are the main ingredients that enliven its brightly youthful flavors. Airing brings further rewards, as tobacconist shop spice notes add depth, and the flavors grow ever more opulent, while retaining their appealing zest.
