Cono Sur Vineyards & Winery was founded in 1993, with the vision of producing premium, expressive and innovative wines conveying the spirit of the New World. Our name refers to the company’s geographic position; it represents wines proudly made in South America’s Southern Cone, on whose western edge lies Chile and its gifted wine valleys. Our logo also evokes a freehand drawing of the silhouette of South America. Right from the start Cono Sur applied new ideas and technology to winemaking traditional methods. Our main goal, therefore, is to create expressive and innovative wines from the world’s southernmost land. 20 Barrels started life in 1996 as an expression of the best 20 Barrels of Pinot Noir which Cono Sur produced, and was then extended along similar lines to other varietals as quality levels were achieved. They are for the most part single vineyard wines from the best terroirs available for each variety. They are harvested with yields on a par with or below those of their classic counterparts in Burgundy 1er Cru, Bordeaux (top AOCs) and Sancerre. This is an elegant, voluptuous Pinot Noir with a deep, clean and bright ruby red colour. The nose carries through with amazing finesse and complexity, where notes of fresh cherry, strawberry, raspberry and plum, mingle in with leather and smoked hints in the background. The wine is deliciously long and soft on the finish. This sophisticated and complex wine is the result of New World fruit vinified according to Burgundy’s tradition. Perfect food matches for a wine generally known as a 'sexy wine', are some of the latest culinary trends; Fusion cuisine, for example, goes very well with Pinot’s versatility. It will also enhance the flavour of whole grains, all kinds of mushrooms and herbs, making it a favourite for vegetarians.
