Winemaker Notes - Named for a popular Australian game of chance, 2 up is created by Kevin and Helen O Brien, producers of the highly acclaimed Kangarilla Road. The wine is an elegant, intense and exceptional quality Shiraz that is hand-crafted from a blend of grapes carefully selected by Kevin from highly prized local vineyards. According to Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate, 2 up represents the type of wine value that simply can t be found in California.
An amazing offering for $14 (I assume discount stores will have it priced even lower), this firm is a joint venture between importer Peter Click and winemaker Kevin Orsquo;Brien, who produces the youthful cuvees from McLaren Valersquo;s Kangarilla Road estate. This deep ruby/purple-tinged Shiraz offers gorgeous aromas of sweet blackberries, figs, plums, and kirsch. Dense, opulent, and full-bodied, it is a terrific South Australian fruit bomb. Enjoy it over the next 2ndash;3 years. It is the type of wine value that simply canrsquo;t be found in California.
Vineyards from three unique locations were used to achieve the perfect balance of fruit, spice and color. Grapes from McLaren Vale added depth and texture with the distinctive terroir flavors of black plum and red cherry. Langhorne Creek and Southern Fleurieu vineyards contributed to the vibrant crimson color and notes of blackberry, dark fruits and spice.
Bright ruby. Fresh raspberry and strawberry preserves on the nose, gaining sweetness with air. A real fruit bomb of jammy raspberry and strawberry, with impressive lift provided by fresh acidity. Lush, creamy and spicy on the finish, a bitter note of espresso giving focus and complexity to the sweet red berry flavors. This would be delicious with a strongly seasoned grilled steak. Superb value.
Soft, plush red raspberry and black cherry flavors are accented by light, spicy notes in this medium-bodied red. A great wine to entertain with and serve alongside barbecued pork tenderloin, it is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
