What to Expect
California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.
Winemakers Notes
Notes on the Silver Oak Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 1994 : WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: 91 POINTS Complex and sophisticated, with layers of concentrated currant, herb, coffee, sage, mineral and spice flavors that fan out and linger on the finish. A wonderfully textured wine with a strong dose of American oak. Best from 2000 through 2008. (JL) Issue: Oct 31, 1998WS California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 Retrospective: Dark, plush and concentrated, with a decided coconut and oak accent mixed with complex plum and berry flavors. Finishes with a rich, focused, generous aftertaste, with fine read more...

The 1994 Silver Oak offerings look spectacular, once again confirming this vintage's unreal level of quality. Both the 1994 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and the 1994 Alexander Valley Cabernet should prove to be mega-hits when they are released. F... Robert Parker. Wine Advocate ReviewRated 93The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Cabernet Franc) reveals toasty sweet oak in the nose, bombastic levels of black currant fruit and spice along with a hint of mint in the background. Supple and full-bodied, with delirious levels of cedar and unctuously-textured fruit, this fleshy, gorgeously made Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well for 14-15 years.

IWC 90+ (6/1999): Ruby-red color. Very ripe aromas of roasted plum, red raspberry, maple syrup, smoke and scotch. Dense but bright and youthful. Flavors are still rather primary and high-pitched. Finishes rather tannic, but the tannins are smooth. This wine should undergo an interesting evolution in bottle-in contrast to some past vintages of this wine, which have not gained noticeably in complexity with bottle aging.
