Grapes were sourced from vineyards throughout Washington state,including the Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Valley, and Wahluke Slope. The wine was aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels to build structure and soften the blend. All varieties were vinified and aged separately. Blending occurred near bottling to enhance mouth-feel and complexity

I really enjoyed the first taste of this wine - very smooth, pleasant taste, not overpowering in any way. I like the smoothness, but nothing stood out about it. I drank it with a strongly flavored pasta sauce, and I don't think that was an advantageous pairing for this wine. Source: Walmart Price: $8.95 For the price, it's a great bargain. I would drink it on it's own, with cheeses, or a less bold dish.

We have been enjoying 14 Hands wines for several years now and the Merlot (any year) is devine! Smooth finish, low tannin, no nasty oak taste. This coming from one who only drank sweet whites. Not sold in most stores, but available at CostPlus World Market. We buy cases directly from Washington.

This is a great buy for $13. Smooth smooth smooth! Pretty strong oak and very creamy texture. Wonderful wine!

Fresh and expressive, a bit raw yet juicy, with black currant and blueberry flavors shaded with notes of toast and peach fuzz as the finish persists. Best after 2016.

On the palate, flavors of plum, black cherry, blackberries and spice are complemented by soft, polished tannins. - Keith Kenison, WinemakerTHE VINTAGE: The 2012 vintage was fairly typical for eastern Washington and a much welcomed change from the cooler 2010 and 2011 vintages. Bud break started a little earlier than normal but cooler temperatures through the early summer delayed veraison slightly. A warming trend began in late July and dry conditions through mid-October were ideal for fruit ripening.WINEMAKING: Grapes were sourced from vineyards throughout eastern Washington, including the Horse Heaven Hills, Wahluke Slope, Yakima Valley and other parts of the Columbia Valley. The wine was aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels to build structure and soften the blend. Small portions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Mourvedre & Petit Verdot were blended in to enhance complexity. Each variety was vinified and aged separately. Blending occurred just weeks before bottling.
