What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

"Our 2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is an opulent wine of greatdepth and concentration. It displays a dark garnet color and aromas ofblack plum, cassis liqueur, rose petals, nutmeg and sandalwood. On thepalate, it offers a mouth-filling texture and a wonderful progressionof flavors from berry fruit to tobacco to dark chocolate, culminatingin an extraordinarily long finish reminiscent of a dark chocolatetruffle filled with berry liqueur. Properly cellared, this wine shouldprovide drinking pleasure through 2028."~Winery Notes"Brightred-ruby. Pungent resiny read more...

Always a pleasing drink. Alexander is a nice wine for those looking for a cheaper version of a well known wine, but the Napa valley is definitely the better choice. Constant, but not new and different.

Man this wine is sweet. It has a TON of vanilla and sweet minty cedar on the nose. It has a medium bodied, creamy cherry mouthfeel that is almost candied.

Liquid velvet. This wine is unabashedly fruit forward, yet well balanced. I opened a bottle and served with prime rib and chanterelle-truffle risotto. The wine was so delicious I found myself with the empty bottle at my lips, tonguing the last delectable drops out of the bottle in my ice cold garage before dropping the bottle in the recycling.

I would love to find a production wine with a similar flavor profile at a fraction of the price. This is what I always hope to get when buying CA cab.

Excellent wine...elixir of the gods. Only downside is the price.

I too would love to find a comparable wine at a more modest price...anyone have any suggestions?

Each of Silver Oak's two estates – one in Napa Valley and the other in Alexander Valley – is dedicated to producing a single wine. These two Cabernet Sauvignons consistently reflect the very best of their appellations. Dark ruby color and a nose of cassis syrup, chocolate and baking spices. This incredibly concentrated wine has a fruity attack, great body and integrated tannins in the medium length finish. It will continue to improve through 2028 given proper cellaring.
