It likely got its name from the Roman outpost Vienne. It was once widely planted in France, but because it is tricky to grow, once Phylloxera struck, it was only replanted in a few places. Condrieu is the only Rhone appellation that is 100% Viognier. In other areas, besides rare varietal releases, small amounts of it are used as a blending component to red Syrah for body. We loved this wine! A beautiful, clear color with peachy and vanilla (maybe a bit buttery)flavor and so smooth and drinkable. Great with spicy foods. Read More

  • Montes Syrah Colchagua Valley Alpha 2005

Notes: Aged in French Oak barrels for one year, this Syrah, with a bit of Cabernet and Viognier mixed in, has an alcohol content of 14.5%.This wine was medium-bodied and has a nice spicy berry flavor. I could definitely taste a hint of the oak (or perhaps cedar wood is a better term). Very indicative of a Chilean Syrah. The wine opened up as it ... Read More

Who wants a wine that complements TCA? If wine did go with TCA then cork taint wouldn't be a fault! Anyway maybe I should venture into the sweeter realm since bluevei... Read More

  • Domaine Coudoulet Viognier Vin de Pays d'Oc 2006

Not as much of a gritty aftertaste as a lot of Viognier's I've had in the past which is a good thing. That said it still has quite a high chalkiness and rich in citrus which cuts through as an initial taste before a softer apple quality emerges. Read More
