It likely got its name from the Roman outpost Vienne. It was once widely planted in France, but because it is tricky to grow, once Phylloxera struck, it was only replanted in a few places. Condrieu is the only Rhone appellation that is 100% Viognier. In other areas, besides rare varietal releases, small amounts of it are used as a blending component to red Syrah for body. • Chateau Ste. Michelle Red Blend Columbia Valley Orphelin Limited Release 2005

    Snoothrank:

This is a well executed grape stock sourced, quality Rhone style blend, ala ... pts. 1% Pinot Noir and 1% Viognier. Yikes ~craft away I say! It was hard enough to type all that? So for the reasonable price and regardless of somewhat somber notes, this does pretty darn well using a Syrah, Mouvedre, Cinsault toppers to that whole host of variabl... Read More

  • Peltier Station Viognier 2006

    Snoothrank:

This ia not a wine. It is some kind of liquid flower. Most Viognier has that floral nose but taste like some strange Chardonnay. Not this. It tastes like drinking orchids. I'm not a white wine drinker but this is one of my favorites. It has so much WOW factor that you white wine drinkers may have to take some time to appreciate it. (Sorry for be... Read More
