Sylvaner on Snooth

  • Well Al, most of the wine in Germany is white and most of that is Riesling, ... are other whites - Schuerbe, Sylvaner, etc.. They're trying more and more reds but it's not really red country -  Dornfelder, Regent, St. Laurent, Spatburgunder, Zweigelt and others just don't come anywhere close to the whites. But Germany isn't only about sweet win... • Due to popular demand (don't ask where that demand came from or you'll spoil my fun), we appear to need some new wine discussion topics.  This topic was only relevant to Thursday as a test case but was subsequently expanded to cover the weekend too.  What ever you bring up in this topic should either occur on a Thursday - Sunday, or it could be ... • Sounds like a nice memory of your visit. In Germany and particularly Austria ... but I like MT better than sylvaner (which I do occasionally drink), so it does have its place for me depending on my mood and what's available. I tend to drink all of those wines straight, and not in that spritzer style, but I know from watching people around me th... Read More

  • I just came back from Germany (Bavaria area) and was introduced to a half dry Mueller Thurgau produced by a local winery (Huter).  My son mixed this with a meduim sparkling water and I really enjoyed this. I am not a wine drinker but I found this to be very enjoyable to drink.   What is a wine I can find locally that is comparable in taste to th... Read More

  • I'm a total beginner. My parents just recently started getting into wine, and I since just turned 21, I'm interested in learning more!  So far, I really like Moscato. Can you tell I'm a beginner yet? I also like sweet and semi-sweet. So far, I haven't been able to enjoy a dry wine, but I would like to develop a taste for it. I just don't know wh... Read More

  • DM, sylvaner is on my list of grapes I have yet to try. I'm on a fun quest to taste as many different varieties as I can. I've been looking in mostly the grocery and big box stores around here but have also checked my favorite wine shop (which is where I bought the white blend above) and have yet to find any.  I've got a bottle of Godello and a ... • Vino, have you had sylvaner before?  Muller-Thurgau is a cross between it and riesling. I haven't drunk any from North America but only know those in the vicinity of Germany. Sylvaner can be refreshing if done right, but I don't get a classy, refined feel from it. Usually it's (mighty) cheap plonk over there. Come to think of it, it might be a g... Read More
