  Not bad, better than some $7 to $10 sauvignon blancs I have had. Could use a bit more acid, and not very complicated, but no flaws or off flavors.

  Thank goodness I like grassy sb's! Though I think the tropical fruits are a tad overpowering... Had it with roast chicken, great combo.

  In a blind tasting I would guess this was a $20 Sancerre. Almost no fruit. Very ... I expected from a Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc

  Merlin-Cherrier Sancerre Sancerre 2007

  I appreciate the Sancerre more than the Muscadet. My wife cannot detect the difference. This is a very nice medium bodied wine.

  While certainly a NZ SB, it's softer than most with the emphasis more on fruit than the more herbal notes.

I always like to have both red and white wines and also a sweet wine on the Thanksgiving table. The reason for this selection is that we often serve three meats (turkey, ham and beef brisket) along with sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and a host of desserts. Since I spend a lot of time in the supermarket buying my turkey and all the fixin’s, I want to make sure that my Texas wine selections are readily available at this same location. This year, the wines that I am going with are Llano Estacado (http://www.llanowine.com) Cellar Select Cabernet Sauvignon (Mont Sec Vineyards) to pair with the brisket, Becker Vineyards (http://www.beckervineyards.com) Viognier for the turkey, and Messina Hof (http://www.messinahof.com) Muscat Canelli to serve with the ham. We may also serve a wine with or after dessert, if so, my selection will be Haak Vineyard Madeira Blanc du Bois.   Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc 2007

  Soft grassy nose leading to a very nice honied sauvignon blanc. The finish was sharp and abrupt, and not in keeping with the actual taste.

Do you have an inclination for wines from particular one? In my case it's Chilean Sauvignon Blancs, for numerous reasons. New Zealand's products are awfully overpriced here in Poland and there aren't many Napa/Sonoma wines around (either overpriced quality wine or nice price global moguls' products). The chileans are reasonably priced (my price shelf is around 10-20 USD) and usually reliable as well. As a newbie wine lover I am still searching for my favorites. Right now Penalolen Sauvignon Blanc 2005 and Yali 2007 Winemaker’s Selection from Rapel Valley (among 2008 Best Buys by Wine Enthusiast) are on the top of the list. I also like Mondavi's classic, the Fume Blanc, but it's not available in Poland as far as I know. So... what's your glass of sauvblanc? :)    (hide)
