Sauvignon Blanc

(aka. Blanc Fume, Fume Blanc, Savagnin Musque)

Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California -- at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety -- and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. Sauvignon Blanc on Snooth

  • Terranoble Sauvignon Blanc Central Valley Chile 2014

    Snoothrank:

Simple lemon aromas. In the mouth this is quite juicy and full flavored, with lemon and white pepper notes with a bit of a petrol note and a hint of yeast. 86 pts Read More

  • I just drank one of the 2013 Uncle's the other day.  It's definitely the more straightforward of the Rockpile SVDs.  I like it, great with grilled food at outdoor parties.  It's not the Cemetery, to be sure.  But reliable as all get out.So we had a number of get togethers over the weekend, don't know if I would call them parties.  On Saturday, w... • Albamar Sauvignon Blanc 2013

    Snoothrank:

Classic lemon aromas waft from the glass with some green apple and grass notes. This has some flab in the mouth but despite being chunky on entry there is some acidic bit to follow with notes of lemon, pink grapefruit and even a touch of cream towards the finish. Read More

  • There are hundreds of sweet wines but if we had a survey to name just one, bet ... bet ... main white grapes Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, (sometimes with a touch of Muscadelle), produce reputably the best sweet wine in the world.  Believe it or not, the key to Sauternes’ quality is rotten grapes. To the uninitiated, they would go straight in... Read More

    Snoothrank:

Opened a half-bottle of this and served it with foie gras.Wow...stunning! Deep amber color, wonderful nose. Magnificent flavors of stone fruits...would hold it's own against any Sauternes or Barsac.I did not expect this level of quality in a wine over 25 years old! Read More

  • OT, how do you place Insignia or Dominus or Mayacamas or Heitz Martha's or others from Napa's storied past? I was a bit surprised to see Montelena in the list below. Do we want to track specific winemakers and consultants?   So here're excerpts from the Wikipedia page on cult wines. Are these the definitions we want? Cult wines are those for whi... Read More

  • It's interesting that a few new topics have popped up recently (Experiencing Cabernet Franc for one) and that my wife Sandra just today handed me an article by Dave McIntyre she cut out of a Washington Post newspaper dated 25 March 2015.  I'm starting this new topic based on this article "The wine cost four digits.  And the taste?" regarding the...
