  I had this wonderful wine for the first time at Chez Catherines in Westfield, ... the lightest and fruitiest Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted. My wife and I were enchanted by it.. Highly recommended!

  New Harbor Sauvignon Blanc

  Oyster Bay has been our benchmark, as it was more affordable than Kim Crawford, or - gasp- Cloudy Bay.New Harbour is a touch coarser than Oyster Bay, but preferable to Stoneleigh or Babich, and superb price/quality/value.

  Dom Guy Allion Sauvignon de Touraine 2008

  My wife and I sipped through a bottle at St Pancras Staion, in London, while waiting for her family to arrive on the Eurostar. What a lovely, crisp, sweet and refreshing wine. Perfect for a warm summer afternoon or a grilled Seabass.

  Domaine Auchère Sancerre 2008

  Bright straw, aromas of apples and green melon, flavor notes of oily lemon, granny smith apples, wet stone, that goes on an focused acidic flight for DAYS. Love this wine...enjoy with anything you squeeze lemon on!

  @Stephen Harvey.. YES I did taste Quivira... sorry to have not mentioned it.. SO many to remember.  I DID like their 2008 Wine Creek Ranch Vineyard Mourvedre.  They also had a 2009 sauv blanc which was good (I am REALLY liking the CA 09 sauv blancs) and a 2008 Grenache... SO many to remember.  I DID like their 2008 Wine Creek Ranch Vineyard Mourvedre.  They also had a 2009 sauv blanc which was good (I am REALLY liking the CA 09 sauv blancs) and a 2008 Grenache (which was also good).  There was not any really BAD wine at show.  I just tasted so much (and it was pretty crowded), so that it was hard to note everything in my guide book. @Outthere- I did like Gracianna's Chard too... as I said to Stephen, SO much to note, but nothing was terrible.  I did like the chard, but  would like to taste it again sometime BEFORE tasting 20 wines or so!  After a few, it gets difficult!What fun it all was!!    (hide)

Read moreOutthere!  Great review!  and of course, I love to chime in with my favs..Firstly, it was a  BIG show... not possible, IMO, to taste everything unless you wanted to go on dialysis the next morning! LOL!  I read over the guide and chose where I wanted to taste... Outthere's recap is great- sonoma coast was was lumped in, for the most part, with RRV, and some with Sonoma Valley.  They had a great appellation map, and I found the AVA's interesting.. somewhat drawn like our CA voting districts! LOL.  Carneros did NOT have its own tent, like I thought, but was lumped in with Sonoma Valley.Overall, a great time, EXCELLENT food pairings, but a tad bit crowded for me.  My plan of attack began with Dry Creek, and then to the other AVAs for the ones I wanted to hit.  The great thing was, since I love to converse with strangers, I was lead over and over to small, unknown wineries I would  have never tried.  These were my personal fav's at show, but again, I only tasted a small fraction of what was there:Number one for me was Mauritson Family Winery.. I like their 2009 Dry Creek Sauv blan the best of all sauv blancs that I tasted.  Their Rockpile 2008 Cemetary Vineyard Zin was awesome, as was their 2007 Buck pasture Bordeaux blend.  The family members were there, and WONDERFUL to talk with.. samples of the soil.. we discussed the composition and impact.  A great experience meeting these folks.  I wanna go visit in the fall..Acorn Winery 2007 Alegria Vineyards RRV Sangiovese, AWESOME!Hubby liked 2007 Acorn Alegria Vineyards RRV ZinMy fave Pinot I tasted was Gracianna 2008 Bacigulupi Vineyard... wonderful!!! 2007 Mueller Winery Chardonnay (was listed in guide as an 08 erroneously)Siduri 2008 Sonatera Pinot noir, sonoma coastI know I am mixing up regions, but I have to mention as best food, the Whiskey smoked roast beef with caramelized onions and buttermilk bleu cheese from Jack and Tony's Restaurant and Whiskey bar (http://www.jackandtonys.com)   FAB!Also, Syrah Bistro and Jackson's Bar and Oven had a WONDERFUL chilled white corn chowder with pickled green tomatoes that I WANT now!!   http://www.syrahbistro.comIn the sonoma tent, I liked:BEST of all:  Pride mtn vineyards (no surprise with me)2008 cab franc... needs about 4yrs but wonderful, wonderful.Landmark Vineyards 2008 grand detour pinot noir, sonoma coastMuscardini Cellars 2008 Sangiovese, Monte Rosso VineyardAt this point, I stopped taking notes/circling and just laughed and talked to SO many people.    Alexander Valley was my last tent, so I don' t have enough notes for this AVA.  I do know I liked the Alexander Valley Vineyards Grenache..   Loved the Sausal wines too.We met, and talked extensively with the folks from Gloria Ferrar (sparkler and pinots).  I am a long time fan of the sparking wine, and throroughly enjoyed our conversations so much that we, on the way home, went to the winery in Carneros today.  We met up with the same wonderful gal that we had met, and proceeded to have a great time.  We even joined their wine club, which I do not normally do.  If you are in the area, I recommend a visit here... they will take care of you... and good wines, of course.  We tasted the Joseph Ferrar pinots which were good, but proceeded to taste the small lots gravel knob pinot based on our new friend's recommendation.   She knew my style for sure.. lighter pinot (red not purple! wanna see through it), earthier... not BIG at all.  LOVED it!~All in all we had a great time, and I hated to leave today.. wanted to stay another day since so much of my time in this area is spent in Napa.   Highly recommend the region and the show, which was on its 31st yr. PS- I didn't know that MacMurry ranch is owned/run by Gallo?  A longtime resident gave us the whole scoop...Not proofreading as my laptop is about to die!  forgive misspellings/grammar!    (hide)

  frankly, i'm not pro in tasting wine, but somehow i do like this "Mancura" brand.... no doubt price are acceptable... and it was smooth for me..... any comment? do share... :)

  Tasted Kemblefield Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand this weekend. Oh my- it was a bunch of bold fruit just bursting all over. Only $9.99 a bottle. Guess I will be going back for a case. MMmMMmMMM!

Do you have an inclination for wines from particular one? In my case it's Chilean Sauvignon Blancs, for numerous reasons. New Zealand's products are awfully overpriced here in Poland and there aren't many Napa/Sonoma wines around (either overpriced quality wine or nice price global moguls' products). The chileans are reasonably priced (my price shelf is around 10-20 USD) and usually reliable as well. As a newbie wine lover I am still searching for my favorites. Right now Penalolen Sauvignon Blanc 2005 and Yali 2007 Winemaker’s Selection from Rapel Valley (among 2008 Best Buys by Wine Enthusiast) are on the top of the list. I also like Mondavi's classic, the Fume Blanc, but it's not available in Poland as far as I know. So... what's your glass of sauvblanc? :)    (hide)
