Sauvignon Blanc

(aka. Blanc Fume, Fume Blanc, Savagnin Musque)

Sauvignon Blanc is widely grown in California -- at over 15,000 acres, it’s now the third most planted variety -- and often assumes the moniker ‘Fume Blanc’. When treated with respect and afforded suitable growing conditions, it is one of the wine world’s darlings. Dry wines made from this grape are characterized by steely, racy acidity, green, gooseberry fruit, asparagus and a grassy, herbaceous character. It is rarely oaked, except in California, where it has often been subjected to Read more »

Sauvignon Blanc on Snooth

  • Clos Floridene Blanc 2014

    Snoothrank:

Clos Floridene is a good, sauvignon blanc based wine from Graves, and is about right for consumption now. There is the muted herbaceous nose and entry followed by the usual rich finish of white fruit. Drink now or until 2020. 90. Read More

  • Chateau Brown Blanc 2014

    Snoothrank:

The 2014 Chateau Brown is filled with nuts and apricot on the nose and entry; there is a hint of apricot preserve on the palate and a deep, apricot-peach finish with a hint of sweetness and musk. Drink now. 89-90. Read More

  • Clos des Lunes "Lune d'Argent" 2015

    Snoothrank:

Another great white from Domaine de Chevalier. Semillon dominant on the nose (that is, a muted, flat, scent of unripe peach on a light bed of cake spice). The entry is smooth, balanced and refreshing - though more dense and viscous than other Bordeaux Blanc in similar price ranges. Fresh and tasty. 89. Read More

  • Domaine Bousquet Gaia White Blend Tupungato Mendoza 2016

    Snoothrank:

Elegant and savory notes of fleshy peach, vanilla cream and golden raisins on the nose. In the mouth this in intriguing, with a somewhat contrasting palate of savory elements and ripe citrus fruit. On the one hand you have honeyed toast and oak and dark caramel, but as that begins to clear theres a clearing of floral peach and melon. A curious w... Read More

  • Chateau Reynon Blanc 2015

    Snoothrank:

This is a fine introduction to grassy, herbaceous regular (but a cut above) ... attributes of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc... the scent of a slow running stream, for example. The wine has strong - almost stemmy Sauvignon Blanc notes on the palate with obvious aging potential of about 2-4 years. Great Value 8 Read More

  • Oxford Landing SB (Marlborough NZ) was my introduction to this grape. Oxford Landing is a reasonable price for a surprisingly low % and an acceptable intro to this grape. However.... My real introduction was with Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough. Revelation; nice sharp taste (not too sharp), reliable 'vintage' (I'm a newbie so I don't c...
