Sangiovese on Snooth

  • Azienda Agricola la Torre Brunello di Montalcino 2001

    Snoothrank:

Classically leathery on the nose with just a background note of band-aid this is aromatically rich and powerful with a dense core of dark and smoky fruit. Big and bright on the attack with superb ripe tannins and great spicy, black currant, black berry fruit. Still a touch short on the finish as a brisk limestone earthiness clamps down. Lovely t... • Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino 1990

    Snoothrank:

With just an initial whiff of brett to lose this opens with a richly fruited nose tinged with sour and meaty notes. Deep and a touch sharply spicy this offers up nuanced notes of charcoal and clay as well as ashy and stony tones that frame the sweet black raspberry fruit so well. A touch of cigar wrapper adds to the mix with air. The palate fulf... Read More

  • San Giusto Rentennano a Chianti Classico Riserva 1990

    Snoothrank:

This opens with very soft and subtle aromatics that recall old goatskin, dusty gravel and fading spices. With air there appears a slight confiture of green grapes that gains sweetness and reddens into a classic dark red cherry note. Big and rich in the mouth with vibrant acids contrasting the fine plush tannins that give this wine an added bit o... Read More

  • Badia a Coltibuono Sangioveto 1990

    Snoothrank:

This open slowly revealing a strong mineral tone on opening that recalls smoky gun flint. Adding layered earthy notes with air then dried floral tones, tobacco and cranberry. In the mouth this is soft with wonderful integration tot he almost fully resolved structure. Wiry and austere the acidity keeps this mouth watering and the background notes... Read More

  • This weekend I conducted a private party in the home of a long time client and ... I wanted earthiness and real Sangiovese flavor. As the roast (sorry braise) rested, the braising liquid was reduced by three quarters. It was deglazed and passed through a chinois five times. Then returned to the heat, seasoned and finally mounted with (grass... Read More
