Roussanne

Rousanne

Increasingly popular in the Central Coast of California for blending purposes and as a varietal, Roussanne is a trendy, white Rhône grape. In France it is often blended with Marsanne, and is cultivated in Provence and Languedoc-Roussillon, as well as the Rhone. Now, it is only one of two vine varieties permitted in the white versions of the northern Rhône’s red wine appellations. In the southern Rhône, it is only one of four grape varieties permitted in white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Roussanne’s main asset is its distinctive aroma, along with an acidity which helps it to age better than its partner Marsanne. Roussanne tends to ripen late and can benefit from oak ageing.

Rousanne, you’re a beauty from southern France; deftly perfumed with strikingly angular features. You offer style and grace in Read more »

  • Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage Blanc 2015

    Snoothrank:

Floral blossom, white peach and golden apple aromas with lemon shortbread and sun dried hay notes on the nose. Unctuous, creamy and full bodied with generous baked apple, persimmon and peach fruit, a vanilla cream center and a lemon drop candied note delicate on the edges. Finishes with excellent length and more creaminess. Read More

  • Michel Gassier Costieres de Nimes Nostre Pais Blanc 2014

    Snoothrank:

Lemon meringue, peach and green apple aromas, somewhat simple but pronounced and pleasant. This has a tart, round and creamy palate of grapefruit, lemon and pear with restrained oak spice and zesty acidity yielding to dried herb towards the finish and a slow fading warmth. Read More

  • The Ojai Vineyard Roussanne Bien Nacido Vineyard 2014

    Snoothrank:

Clear, pale yellow in color. Lots of fruit and flower aromaspear, apple, geranium. On the tongue, the fruit is most apparentthe pear apple thing, but, also tropical fruit like kiwi. I guess it would not exactly be a news flash if I characterized it as light bodied. Very nice acid content makes for freshness. Read More
