Parentage of the grape: mutation of Corvina
History of the grape: There are 6th century written documents by Cassiodoro, a magistrate of Visigoth King Theodorus, describing a sweet wine made from half dried grapes in Verona that is mostly likely an early version of Amarone or Recioto made from Rondinella and its blending partners Corvina and Molinara. “Straw wine,” the process used to make these wines by drying grapes on straw mats before pressing, is a style of wine-making that was passed on from the ancient Greeks. In 643 Lombard King Rotari wrote an edict protecting Rondinella and other local grapes from being pulled. Venice became a center of trade during the Byzantine Empire, and Valpolicella (a name that is a likely combination of ancient Greek and Latin meaning “wine from many cellars”) wines made with Rondinella and its sidekicks became a popular export. • Hello,I'm new to the forum and my name is Chris. I joined because I was trying to find out about a wine that my lovely sister had sent to me for my birthday.  Please forgive my uneducated listing as the wine label is in Italian and I'm not sure what the name is verses the winery or vintage.  I'll just throw it all out here.Amarone Della Valpolic... Berry and red currant aroma. On the palate it was round and full of fruit with a burst of berry flavors and red currents along with some pepper. Low tannins and good acidity. A nice food wine. Read More

A 2007 Blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara from Valpolicella, Italy. Ruby color with mid-rim variation. Dark fruits hints of plum and cranberry with a hint of chocolate. It has a mid-finish on the palette and balanced acidity. This wine is in peak time now, 2012-2017. Best served chilled to 58 degrees, and served with a grilled pork loin ... Read More

  • Masi Corvina Blend Veronese IGT Campofiorin 2009

The nose showed black cherry, herbs, and dark wood tones. On the palate it showed a light to medium body with juicy, ripe red berry and a note of cedar, which stayed through the close. The 2009 Campofiorin represents great value. It's clean and fruity with enough depth to keep you interested throughout the bottle. Read More

  • Bolla Valpolicella Classico Superiore le Poiane 2008

This is a textured wine. Color is a light brick red. Darker core but showing its age. A few very small bits of sediment. Tears are medium and slow but not very slow to form. Aromatic. With lively, big red fruit and some alcohol coming through. Very mild bitterness thats silky but thick. Think about a well pureed tapioca pudding. Some low tones I... Read More
