Parentage of the grape: mutation of Corvina
History of the grape: There are 6th century written documents by Cassiodoro, a magistrate of Visigoth King Theodorus, describing a sweet wine made from half dried grapes in Verona that is mostly likely an early version of Amarone or Recioto made from Rondinella and its blending partners Corvina and Molinara. “Straw wine,” the process used to make these wines by drying grapes on straw mats before pressing, is a style of wine-making that was passed on from the ancient Greeks. In 643 Lombard King Rotari wrote an edict protecting Rondinella and other local grapes from being pulled. Venice became a center of trade during the Byzantine Empire, and Valpolicella (a name that is a likely combination of ancient Greek and Latin meaning “wine from many cellars”) wines made with Rondinella and its sidekicks became a popular export. • L'Arco Red Blend Veronese IGT Pario 2003

Wonderfully inviting nose of cherry liquor, raisin, potpurri, fall leaves and hazelnut. The palate showed a mix of blueberry and raspberry fruit followed by cinnamon and chocolate along with a burnt sugar flavor carrying into the long finish. Another great experience with this bottle but not quite on the level of the last one. It was nice to see... Read More

Taste- Good strong yet balanced oak creates a slightly salty impression, but mixes well with a presence of blackberries and raisins. Powerful long finish with heavy and sustaining mouth feel. The finish b... Read More

We picked it up at Astor Wines, let it breathe for 4 hours and then I had the most amazing wine experience of my life. The taste was nothing I have ever had. Smooth, fruity, ... Read More
