Gregory, Many thanks for these suggestions. I ended up with a great austian riesling (prager federspiel 2005) which had the body you described and was a perfect match for the soup. Then onto two different Barolos with the veal (the '93 Beni De Batasiolo was the crowd favorite,... Read more

Snoothrank:
A wee bit pricier than its Pinot Blanc cousin from D & I, but even more flavor. ... 12 or 14 dollars. A simple Riesling, so straight forward and clean. I made pasta e vongholi and it was perfect with that and a butter lettuce and avocado salad. I especially like this wine at the... Read more

Willakenzie Estate Pinot Gris 2008
Snoothrank:
To me, Pinot Grigio is one of the world's most boring wine styles. (In it's ... Pinot Gris, and Sancerres, Rieslings and Gurwurztaminers. It stood out head and shoulders above the rest. Unlike most Pinot Grigios that are refreshing yet one dimensional, this wine has a nice acidity,... Read more

Morning gents! I'm about to start a thread where we try to come up with the names and URLs of each wine that was there last night. And I want to echo what Eric wrote, I've always known I like reisling, but the 94 Steinmetz was a real treat. Tasting notes on all 30 odd wines to follow

Eric, I am glad you enjoyed the Steinmetz and Doennhoff. I think it was good to have both a very young and an aged Spaetlese next to each other, just to see how wonderfully this grape can mature in the bottle. I am looking forward to your tasting notes.

After having dinner last night with all of my fellow snooth members and working through all of those "That" bottles. I have to say that the two Rieslings I had were my favorite wines of the night. I'll post some tasting notes soon. For now, I'll say, I am officially converted.
