Common synonyms: Rhineriesling, Johannisberger, Gentile Aromatique, Hochheimer, Rizling, Rheinriesling, Rieslinger, Reynai, White Riesling
Parentage of the grape: likely indigenous to Germany
History of the grape: As with many varietals, exact details of Riesling’s origins are unclear. From this point, there is written evidence throughout the 15th century of various sales and plantings around Germany as well as Austria and Alsace. • Magnificent Wine Company White Blend Columbia Valley House Wine 2007

Found this on sale at Cost Plus for $6.99. Even at full retail of $10.99 this is a great wine. None of those cheap wine cherry syrup flavors. This is a great wine with food or on its own. Not a fruit bomb, just a good, balanced, easy drinking, everyday pleaser. I did not get bored after the first glass which is really the true test of a value wi... Read More

  • Weingut Huber Riesling Terrasen Traisental 2007

Shelf-shouted by Oddbins as medium-sweet but labelled as trocken. We had this ... ... bubbles, typical of dry riesling (although at only a year or so in bottle I'd expect it to have a greener tinge). There's citrus and green apple on the nose, with a little hint of bitter lime, and some peachy notes right at the top. Underneath you can just de... Read More

  • Barefoot Riesling Premier NV

This goes into the mouth sweet, crisp, and bright. It almost tastes like drinking green apples. There is a very nice balance of sweet and sour with perhaps a tiny hint of vanilla. It was great with spicy food. I didn't taste the advertised "tropical citrus fruits," "luscious peach," or "hints of orange blossom," but this is probably due to my la... Read More
