Read moreBought for £7.60 in Summer 2008 (Bush Vines). Tasted at Tipplers group 5 June 2009. We noted "white alcohol" rim, good legs. It was beginning to go over - the colour showed that brownish tint, and there was a slight mustiness but this didn't detract from the fact that this was a beautifully flavoured wine of a grape variety we hadn't tried before. I'd drink it up quickly if I had any more bottles though.    (hide)

  Inky in color, the nose is what really shows up. Big deep cherry notes with chocolate, earth, coffee, fresh tabbaco, and more. In the mouth a wine that is sexy, soft with firm tannins that are balanced well by nice rich tannins. Overall a wine that could still use some time in bottle but with a little air really comes alive. Steak went well with it, rare and lightly salted. Though this wine could hold up to richer flavors if it had to. 4/5 [NR]    (hide)

A bit of barnyard hidden by rich dark cherry fruit, chocolate, speariment, and intoxicating cassis notes. Wow! Great wine! Haven't tasted it yet, and then when I do it's soft as a baby's bum, silky and soft. Firm tannins that seem like scaffolding for the juicy acidity which brightens up the whole glass. Wow, nice cherries, anise, chocolate, black berry, and light herbal notes that seem to dance in and out of the picture. Fun wine, very enjoyable and I want to try it with a variety of meaty dishes to see where it fits in. 4/5 [NR]    (hide)

The nose at first is quite earthy and opens in to a mix of minerals, wood, rosemary/mint, raspberry, and chocolate. Med body with strong tannins, med-strong acidity, and a palate drying finish. With time it reveals, raspberry, sour cherry, earth and chocolate. It is much bigger than I expected and next time I would decant it for an hour or so.   Light pure red in color. Candy fruit on the nose with a dusty clay quality to ... cherry liquorice. My first Prieto Picudo. Not sure how many more I will come across but I would like to try a non rose version of this sometime. [NR
