“With so voluptuous a perfume, so sweet an edge, they make the blood run hot,” Joel Fleischman, wine columnist at Vanity Fair, once described of Pinot Noir. Also christening it as a fickle mistress, a minx, and as sex in a glass, wine critics have had no hesitation in oft comparing Pinot Noir to a woman.

With many qualities lending themselves to this parallel, the best is likely that the Pinor Noir grape is difficult. Difficult to cultivate. Difficult to transform into wine. Difficult to pinpoint in taste.

The Pinot Noir grape is grown in tightly clustered dark purple, pine-cone shaped bunches, the resemblance from which it gets its name. Considered to produce the finest wines in the world, its fame as a Noble grape goes hand in hand Read more »

Pinot Noir on Snooth

  • Elk Cove Pinot Noir Oregon Estate 2007

    Snoothrank:

Now I'll admit I had a hard time finding this wine today, I tore the cellar apart, looking in case after case, knowing had to be there somewhere, and alas I found it in a half case of Languedoc! So here we are, a beautiful deep garnet color in the glass with great clarity. The nose is just a rush of Oregon Pinot memories, rustic earthy element... Read More

  • King Estate Pinot Noir Signature 2010

    Snoothrank:

Somewhat translucent muddied garnet color in the glass. Opens with smoked strawberry, herbs and bing cherry, blueberry, lavender, and moss and mint. Silky mouthfull, with a long finish. Soft and balanced tannins and acidity. As it opens more in the glass, hints of milk chocolate, mint and more earth and sage. Seems like it still needs a few year... Read More

  • Robert Mondavi Winery Pinot Noir California Coastal 2011

    Snoothrank:

A decent table wine. A little sharp, which you'd expect from this price wine, but the flavor is very bright and soft. I was given this at a museum function. I would like to serve it with a sharp cheddar or bold bleu some evening hanging out with friends. Read More

  • Domaine Besancenot Beaune Premier Cru Bressandes 1997

    Snoothrank:

A real show-stopper wine! The first flash on the palate is strong and fruity, a burst like fire in the grate. It evolves into a warm, constant amber glow, a happier milder smoldering. Intense but restrained. You can taste the earthiness of the wine, here, like the embers of a fire it's the base at the heart of the wine, but the wine still bui... Read More

  • Domaine Besancenot Beaune Premier Cru Greves 2010

    Snoothrank:

The power and age of this wine dwarfs you like walking through a redwood forest. You can feel the history around you, until its not just the scent or taste of the forest, its as if youve become part of the forest yourself. The smell and taste encompasses you.On the nose, its woody and subtle, like fruit descending into forest greens. On the pal... Read More

  • Champagne Jacquinot & Fils Champagne Harmonie 2000

    Snoothrank:

A little zippy and zesty on the nose. Citrus.Creamy on the palate, fruity but not ostentatious. It reminds me of childhood days with my sister, climbing into fruit trees. The even, fine taste of the wine is appley, a little loquat, with a leafiness in the background. Like the moment you climb into the tree, surrounded by the smell of apples and ... Read More

  • Domaine Xavier Durand Corton Grand Cru Rognet 2010

    Snoothrank:

A rich mahogany smell, like picking up an antique violin. Hints of fruit on the nose.Complex and beautiful on the palate. The bit of fruit we encountered on the nose steps forwards and takes center stage, like a ballerina showing off her skill. Its dance is subtle and enchanting, changing as it dances across the tongue first dark fruit, then... Read More

  • Henri Maire Rouge Vermeil Arbois Domaine de la Croix d'Argis 1996

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website ... grapes of the Jura Aoc's 50% pinot noir, 40% ploussard, and 10% trousseau. I started my bottle last night with my supper of fried pork and I did enjoy it. There is plenty of a blackberry, raspberry and cherry style fruit there and the tannins are soft but fairly structured. There is a peppery or ... Read More

  • The beginning of Spring marks the beginning of several “seasons” as ... ... Zinfandel: Retail $45. A Pinot Noir lovers Zinfandel: with fruit that, while prominent, is by no means over-powering, it is refined and deep with great structure. I could smell and drink this for a very long time. 93 Points. A White and a Rosé: When choosing a white for... Read More

  • Pinot nero is known as the Burgundian king of red wines. With rich and intense aromas of dark berries, spice and violets and pairs well with light meats like (our veal scaloppine). This thin-skinned variety is grown in Alto Adige. Primarily in Bassa Atesina, but also Oltradige, Bolzano basin, Adige Valley, and Val Venosta. The Pinot Nero grows b...

  • 2008 Torii Mor deux verres It is stellar. 2008 is a great vintage for Willamette Pinot and the Torii Mor deux verres is among the best of them and is already drinking well above several more expensive Pinot. So classically light and yet so luxuriously fruity, with a perfect amount of tannic structure that will allow it to gain further complexity...
