“With so voluptuous a perfume, so sweet an edge, they make the blood run hot,” Joel Fleischman, wine columnist at Vanity Fair, once described of Pinot Noir. Also christening it as a fickle mistress, a minx, and as sex in a glass, wine critics have had no hesitation in oft comparing Pinot Noir to a woman.

With many qualities lending themselves to this parallel, the best is likely that the Pinor Noir grape is difficult. Difficult to cultivate. Difficult to transform into wine. Difficult to pinpoint in taste.

The Pinot Noir grape is grown in tightly clustered dark purple, pine-cone shaped bunches, the resemblance from which it gets its name. Considered to produce the finest wines in the world, its fame as a Noble grape goes hand in hand Read more »

  • Hahn Estates Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 2013

    Snoothrank:

Wine of the night and at $20 this oozes QPR from start to finish. • Dominique Laurent Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2013

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine for £12.50 from Roberson Wines in West London [www.robersonwines.com].It is a simple basic village level Burgundy from a family run concern.I started it last night with my steak supper and I did enjoy it. It is quite pale in colour but there is plenty of a raspberry and redcurrant style fruit there with a hint of van... Read More

  • Wild Ridge Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2013

    Snoothrank:

Elegant and delicate aromas of tea leaf, ripe cherry pie filling and clove spice with notes of blueberry and red licorice. This comes on in the mouth with puckering acidity and tart cranberry and black cherry notes, baking spice and tight tannins towards the front of the palate and raspberry notes with a fair bit of heat towards the finish. • Left Coast Cellars White Pinot Noir 2015

    Snoothrank:

Fresh lemon and melon aromas on the nose with a mellow heat and a bit of spice coming through. This has a touch of bright sweet spice on entry with white peach and dried apricot notes, soft lemon with a bit of tart acidity and a juicy melon finish with a hint of papaya and cream. 90 pts Read More

  • Domaine Louis Boillot et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 2011

    Snoothrank:

This nicely acidic Gevrey-Chambertin, that famous magnet of wine tourists south of Dijon, is very quaffable and age-worthy. The strawberry nose is flecked with grassy notes and the entry does pucker the lips, but this indicates a fairly lengthy age-worthiness. Decent French Burgundy from a famous appellation. 88 points. • EM - Here's a nice review of your Pinot noir:  The Wine Advocate - "More classic in style than the Clone 22, the 2013 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard has lots of black raspberry, flowers and crushed-rock nuances as well as a full, layered, beautifully textured feel on the palate. I normally find something masculine and mineral-laced from this vi... Read More

  • I'm still not "drinking the Pinot Noir kool-aid," but I have to say, this one is pretty good. With this wine I can almost see the "elegance" that Pinot fans rave over.  This wine can be described as elegant.  There is nothing overpowering (as I generally seek in most of the California reds that I enjoy) here.  A gentle hint of strawberry that al...
