  • Raventos I Blanc Reserva Brut Cava 2009

Let's be honest, I don't exactly know what I'm looking for in the sparkling world. I purchased this bottle because it made an appearance in a local wine shop newsletter. I enjoyed drinking it @ midnight on NYE, and at a price of less than $20, I'll probably use it to celebrate sometime in the future. Read More

  • Cava, Cava, Cava, Cava, Cava Chameleon. You come and go, you come and go.Loving ... varieties such as Macabeo, Parellada, and Xerel-lo. These would be the green grapes with their bright, citrus flavors and zesty acidity. Chardonnay was introduced to Cava in 1981 and has becoming increasingly common, adding yellow fruit and a certain voluptuousn... Read More

  • Segura Viudas Brut Reserva Heredad Cava NV

Sweet and slightly candied smelling with notes of lime, pineapple and watermelon on the nose. Hinting at sweetness on entry as well with flavors that mimic the nose. A rather fine mousse and creamy texture which makes this broadly appealing. The finish is a bit short, though it is nicely dry and shows a bit of yeasty character. 83pts Read More

  • Freixenet Carta Nevada Brut Spain Cataluna Cava 1987

Earthy apple core, floral and dried citrus aromas with a hint of caramel. Mousse is a little coarse but this does show off fairly rich, apple and sweet citrus flavors in a fruity style that takes advantage of the residual sugar to create a smooth mouthfeel without being obviously sweet, though the sugar lingers a bit on the finish. 85pts Read More

  • Jaume Serra Cava Semi Seco NV

Lightly floral on the nose with hints of white flowers over gentle apple fruit with a squirt of lime, simple but fresh. In the mouth this shows off lovely citrus fruit over a nice integrated base of yeasty complexity. Rather light and distinctly fresh in the mouth, this is easy to drink and finishes on the dry side with refreshing dried citrus a... Read More

  • Segura Viudas Aria Extra Dry NV

Bright, clean and fresh on the nose with light dried yellow fruit notes balanced by the gentle yeast and nut aromas. Lovely balance in the mouth with refreshing acidity, a gentle sweetness that helps add a little flesh in the mouth and a really fine, gentle mousse. The flavors here tend towards light dried peach and apple fruits with subtle deta... Read More

  • Casteller Brut Cava NV

Intensely aromatic with huge notes of bitter apples, melon, sharp herbs and fresh, polleny flowers on the nose. With a slightly coarse mousse, and obvious sweetness in the mouth this is a bit clunky after the nose, though there is a nice balance between the powdered sugar coated fresh lemon fruit and a gentle underlying bitter, yeasty edge, all ... A bit sweet and citrussy on the nose with some slightly funky earthy notes. Soft in the mouth with fairly refined bubbles. This is well-balanced and round showing off a nice blend of green and yellow citrus notes, a little yeasty complexity and lovely apple and pear flavors. A little sweet but at the same time well balanced with penetrating acid... Read More

  • Vina del Mar Tinto Penedès Jaume Serra Rood 2007

This shows impressive complexity on the nose with layered nut, honeycomb, toast, dried fruit and vegetal floral aromas. Fine mousse combined with a broad yet transparent feel in the mouth gives this a lovely presence, both sophisticated and elegant. The flavors are perhaps a touch light on the palate with a hint of something vaguely cherried sit... Read More
