Name of varietal: Palomino

Common synonyms: Listan (France), Fransdurif (South Africa), Perrum (Portugal)

Parentage of the grape: native to southern Spain (Andalusia)

History of the grape: Palomino is split into three types: Palomino Fino, Palomino de Jerez and Palomino Basto. • Have ever tried this one from Spain ;     Bodegas Abanico Rua ... the following grapes: Palomino, Dona Blanca, Godello  Niche - but I liked a little better less chilled.  More nuanced as it warmed up.  Paul                                                         &nbs Read More

Unique to say the least. Another, in what was a completely different night of wine tasting at the house. Cider vinegar right off the bad, not exacting the kind of intro that we'd thought, but different. After sitting and warming this develops a green herbal quality and a drop of honey that alone doesn't really set off any green lights, but with ... Read More

  • Call it what you’d like: An old routine, a daily pattern, your go-to ... ... Viura, Sauvignon Blanc, and Palomino, which are used as faithful blending agents. If you see Rueda D.O. (Denominación de Origen) on the label, it means that your blend contains at least 85% Verdejo. Oftentimes it will be more. When you see Rueda Verdejo on the label, ... Read More

Gentle hit of that fruit on introduction to the tongue and palate, but then more rustic earthy sensations emerge as the wine passes backeven maybe a mintiness. Very light on tannin with a nice tartness. I had this wine about a year and a half ago, and it is obvious that it is much more integrated... Read More

  • 2011 Carlisle White Blend, 66% Semillon, 24% Muscadelle, 10% Chasselas Dore' (or Palomino, from 118 yr. old vines at Saitone Ranch, RRV). Not to be outdone, the Semillon comes from Monte Rosso, planted in 1886, and Pagani Ranch Muscadelle planted in 1920. You gotta be kidding me...I'm glad I looked this up after my first few sips. Talk about try... Read More
