Parentage of the grape: DNA testing has led to the conclusion that  Muscadelle is a cross between Gouais Blanc (Heunisch Weiss) and an unknown variety.

History of the grape: It is unclear how Muscadelle made its way to Australia. The country has been famous for its excellent sweet wines since the 19th century, but the producers of Liqueur Tokay were convinced that they had Pinot Gris (because that variety is known as Tokay in Alsace) or perhaps even the Harslevelu of Hungary.
