The Occitanian word “merlot” translates to “young blackbird.” An accurate description for this popular, early-budding red wine grape, which also happens to be a close cousin to Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot on Snooth

  • Emmolo Napa Valley Merlot 2012

    Snoothrank:

Another one from lunch at Marcello's. The Winemaker's notes on Wine.com seem spot on to me. 'This well-balanced and darkly colored wine evokes the scents of saddle leather, coffee and plum, with traces of smokiness amidst its rich fruit. A smooth entry on the palate leads into ripe flavors of plums, prunes and cocoa, balanced by acidity and a gr... Read More

  • Wine is not the first pairing that comes to mind when you’re talking ... ... Syrah, 7% Zinfandel and 4% Merlot$12, 13.8% abv. The wine opens up quickly with rich aromas of plum and strawberry, the latter being a little surprising for the grape blend. On the palate it shows mild tannins, big fruit, and a gentle finish. It’s even better the next... Read More

  • I AM BACK!! And what an incredible experience it was... I must thank all of you ... to a pub. I asked to try the Merlot and the Cab Sauv and the bartender was not happy. I think he poured the same wine twice (I'm pretty sure I saw it). So he must have noticed something was wrong when I took a tiny sip of each (both badly kept, to say the least)... Read More

  • Chateau Haut-Mouleyre Grande Reserve (Metal Label) 2011

    Snoothrank:

This modest wine from the right bank of the Garonne is very reflective of the so-called Bordeaux "style" - somewhat taut, a little tart and redolent of deep, black berries. From the "normal" 2011 vintage, flavours harken back to the 1960's or earlier and spell F-R-A-N-C-E. A little thinner than products from the other side of the river, this wi... Read More
