Melody

Melody is a recent hybrid grape developed by the Geneva Research Station in New York State, used to produce light bodied white wines. Melody has yet to take any significant acreage away from the Cayuga in New York, but its cold hardiness and pleasant fruit and floral character have made it successful in the American Mid-West. Melody is a cross of Seyval Blanc with GW5 (Pinot Blanc x Ontario).

You poor ole Ma, Pinot Blanc, always seemed to play second fiddle to Miss Chardonnay. So it shouldn't come as a shock that even in New York you're overshadowed by Miss Cayuga. No matter, you're much too delicate and pretty for the competitive 'Empire State'. You seem more at home singing flowery tunes in the relaxed enviroment of the Mid-West. – Description from Appellation America (view original content)

  • If you have any doubt that Austrians love their wine, consider the fact that ... that ... summer eve’s melody in the fields and towns along Lake Neusiedl.  Throughout the Burgenland in charming villages like Purbach am See, the wine lover can find a Zimmer Frei, literally translated as a “free room”.  It is, in fact, a reasonably priced accom... • It’s strange as I sit here in the same backyard that I grew up in. I feel ... that meld perfectly into a melody of flavors that taste, to me, of Sicily. Imagine a pasta dressed with fried eggplant, fresh basil (grown right in this backyard), a tomato sauce and ricotta salata. Separate, these components are simple and highly enjoyable in their o... • Just a quick posting on a tasting we did last week.  We've been celebrating our tenth anniversary, and I stockpiled 2001s.  Good thing it was a strong vintage in so many places.  Of course, the 2001 Gran Reservas from Rioja are, in some cases, just hitting the market and are terrific values. We celebrated with a bottle we bought in the first cou... Read More

i am absolutely hooked on this one. The fruity and floral accents are a melody of pleasure to the taste buds. It has a wonderful bouquet and crisp finish that has no lingering sting from tannins. Great with desert and and a good compliment to spicy dishes. I call this one the "Poor mans chateau yquem". Read More
