Mavrotragano is an ancient red variety indigenous to Santorini, Greece. The wine is bright red in color and full of fresh red fruits and spices. Like many red, Greek varietals, Mavrotragano is a highly tannic wine, but will mellow and gain complexity with oak aging. Mavrotragano is also commonly used in the production of sweet wines. Due to it's brush with extinction, the variety is not protected as an endangered variety by the international Slow Food organization. – Description from Constance Chamberlain
