History of the grape: Macabeo is Spain’s most widely planted grape. From there, it has made its way to southern France’s Roussillon region, which is located just over the Pyrenees mountains. Though a text from 1854 suggests that it originated in the Middle East, its history is rather murky.

Macabeo on Snooth

  • M. Chapoutier Bila-Haut Blanc 2014

    Snoothrank:

This most recent edition of the Bila Haut (Chapoutier) Cotes du Rousillon Blanc is full of tropical fruit and garden flowers (generally speaking) and is juicy, citric, and pear-like on the palate. This is a very good white from southern France and excellent value. For example, you will not find a Bordeaux or Bourgogne Blanc anywhere near this ... Read More

  • Protocolo Blanco Dominio de Eguren 2014

    Snoothrank:

Not much going on with this Spanish white blend of Macabeo and Airen. There are some floral aromatics on the nose but on the palate this is somewhat flat and one dimensional. There is a bit of watered down lemon juice and maybe a touch of green apple. The acidity is decent but overall this is a fairly thin and simple wine. Read More

  • Turmeon Vermouth NV

    Snoothrank:

Delicious aperitivo wine, and best Vermouth wine i have ever tasted. I can drink it at any time, refined flavours from the aged wine plus the complexity of the botanicals. Spectacular wine in the mouth with the spices and the figs flavours coming out, it touches your heart too. Very original label. Read More

  • Cune Monopole White Rioja 2014

    Snoothrank:

Light aromas of white peach and lemon are framed with a petrol edge. Slightly oily in the mouth, yet thin with predominantly citrus flavors of lemon and a nutty hint on the finish. Read More
