Common synonyms: Traminer Musque, Traminer Parfume, Traminer Aromatique, Roter Traminer, Traminer Rose, Traminer Rosso, Termener Aromatico 
Parentage of the grape: Traminer, possibly Muscat
History of the grape: Evidence of the parent Traminer grape can be traced back to the Middle Ages, in the Tyrollean Alps in Alto Adige, where Italy is closest to Germany. Traminer isn’t known for having much of its own flare, but it does like to mutate, and it eventually became the perfumed clone we all know and most of us love. France and Italy began calling the grape by many of the above synonyms, but it wasn’t until the late 19th century that Alsatians started to call it Gewürztraminer (“gewürz” means spicy and/or perfumed) and not until 1973 that the name became official.
