Frontenac

Frontenac’s overall viticultural performance and excellent wine quality are directly responsible for its success in Minnesota, where more of its vines are growing than any other variety. This red wine grape released in 1996 from the University of Minnesota is a cross of French-America hybrid Landot 4511 and native American Vitis riparia. The vine’s chief advantage is its vigorous and productive nature. The vine is extremely cold hardy, at least to -30 F (approx. -34 C) and has adapted well to the inhospitable winters of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Frontenac is also very resistant to disease, with good resistance to Powdery Mildew and Botrytis bunch rot, and almost complete immunity to Downy Mildew. High sugar levels, along with high acidity, are typical at harvest. Malolactic fermentation is vital to lessen the wine’s acidity. Wines have been described as being deeply colored, with a pleasing cherry aroma, and plum and berry often evident. – Description from Appellation America (view original content)

  • Crown Vally Frontenac NV

    Snoothrank:

This wine has a deep brown color with notes of sweet plum jam and oak. The palate was surprising and very different from the nose, in that the flavors were dominated with distinct sour acidity and very strong tobacco flavors that left a long spicy and even smoky finish. This wine is different and unlike any other wine I have tasted. Read More

  • Frontenac Point Vineyard White Blend Finger Lakes Frontenac White NV

    Snoothrank:

The Frontenac White (Seyval Blanc) is a very nicely balanced white wine that is not overly dry. This wine is a medium bodied, white wine that is crisp, and refreshing with what I found to be a semi-dry to a dry wine with a slight citrus taste. I could taste a green apple flavor and possibly some sort of melon. The finish of the Frontenac Whi... Read More

Vintage rating: NA Predicted year : Difficult to say as some suggest that Frontenac may have aging potential and the higher sugar content of this wine may bode well for cellaring...This Frontenac varietal rosé offers a very pleasing bouquet of sweet strawberry jam with a darker tone of sweetness that ressembles butterscotch.
