Parentage of the grape: Indigenous to Piedmont, Italy

History of the grape: The name means “little sweet one” in Italian. Dolcetto, along with Barbera and Nebbiolo is one of the prized grapes of the Piedmont region in Italy, with evidence that it has been growing there for many centuries. It had been traditionally produced as a light (both in color and weight) table wine. More recently the trend is for bolder versions made from grapes that have been given a longer hang time to amplify their power and ageworthiness, but this also results in raising its alcohol levels. Dolcetto on Snooth

  • Giribaldi San Lorenzo 2007

    Snoothrank:

Smokey/Spicy right away with dark cherries on the back. Some fruits of the forest as well. Licorice, leather, and cloves. Quite aromatic. On the tongue it's quite spicy as well, or is it the fuet (Spanish salami but better as the Catalans say). Tart and fruity as well on the tongue. Does go well with the fuet and crackers on the table. • Realize that now Texas wineries have obtained a certain level of acceptance ... varietals such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Viognier and Vermentino. There was also a Prickly Pear (Tuna) wine, a roadside grown Mustang grape wine, and even a chili pepper infused white wine that nobody seemed to have the courage to open.More at: http://vintagetexas.com/... • De Forville Dolcetto Dolcetto d'Alba 2008

    Snoothrank:

Strong evocation of black cherries on the nose, dry yet nice expression of ... ... ... on account of the tannic Dolcetto grape; overall a nice wine for quaffing on its own or would pair nicely with eggplant cannelloni. 13% al Read More

    Snoothrank:

graham cracker and beef nose, some liquory medicinal herb tones, nicely put together, still tight and youthful, good freshness and density to the slightly astringent red cherry fruit, wild raspberry, slightly spicy, slightly herbal peppery, nice crisp tannin, ice feel, good sweetness on the palate, not vulgar, nice mineral bitter background note...
