Read moreAt first this is shy but with layered notes of rosemary, bitter lime oil, soapy floral tones, bitter orange pith and balsamic tones eventually filling the glass. In the mouth this has real punch up front with bitter orange oil tones and tea notes that marry intensity and richness with excellent length. The huge acids help in the beginning but with time the wine looses it's inner mouth perfume and becomes a little simple and ethereal tasting but that first hour or so was mighty fine. Just drink this quickly. 93pts    (hide)

  I just discovered a bold Italian red from Campania: Vestini Campagnano Pallagrello Nero. Huge boquet and nose, big tannins. Would welcome your opinions.

  Denominación de Origen Rioja. Es un vino envejecido durante 12 meses en madera de roble de Ohio. Acompaña muy bien arroces como primer plato. Taninos logrados. Retrogusto aproximado de 4 a 5 seg.

Brutally charming with a nose that never ends - exotic spices, plums and forest fruit, mulberry and black tea. The palate grabs you and stuffs in bushels of stewed black fruits, bitter chocolate, Dutch licorice and cardamom. All of this weight is amazingly offset with an acidity that allows hints of blood orange, bergamot and cedar to texturally complicate the flavors. Dynamic tannins and a presence that is beyond expectations. The muscularity is immense, so make certain you are sitting down before taking a bite out of this one.    (hide)
