“King of the Red Wine Grapes.” The colonizer of the vineyards, pushing native wine grapes into its shadows. The Cabernet Sauvignon is wildly popular in wine regions throughout both the Old World and New World. Its most intimate roots trace back to the Bordeaux Wine Region in Southern France.

For an avid wine drinker, some major elements of the Cabernet Sauvignon are worth noting. The most distinctive element of Cabernet Sauvignon is its black currant aroma, which is present in all its wines worldwide.

Cabernet Sauvignon on Snooth

  • I usually grab a Pinot Noir with lamb.  What do you drink with ... lamb, ... ... lamb, Al.  I prefer Cabernet Sauvignon.  Somebody else might prefer Temprnillo.  If I came to your house and you offered me a PN to go with a Sandra-prepared rack of lamb, I would gratefully accept it.  However, I know you have that stash of Barnetts.  Try one of ... • We were pouring many wines last night at our farewell wine dinner for protest ... already opened 2010 Repris Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley (no picture), it showed very well and was opened and decanted when the New England Patriots game started.  We then opened the 2016 Stone Tower Viognier for a few ladies, and I gave Patti and Pamela a ... • Lamb chops, tonight.  I really enjoy Cabernet Sauvignon with lamb. A very enjoyable wine.  Blueberry, black plum on the tip of the tongue.  Then, some mineral hits.  Then bitterness as from unsweetened chocolate--may be tannin.  Not a tannic monster, but, definitely, backed up by tannin.  I can drink this kind of wine every day.Life is good. • Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008

    Snoothrank:

Red plum color. Very attractive dark fruit on the tongueblackberry, blueberry, black plum. Some suggestion of pencil lead. Some bitter chocolate. While I am pleased with the sturdy backbone provided by the tannin and acid, I am not at all disappointed that I am not allocating more cellar space to age this one longer. Read More

  • RC - Thanks for the New Zealand tips.EM - You are sensitive to the need for ... for ... The Garrison Creek Cabernet Sauvignon is our favorite, but the Barboursville Merlot isn't bad either.  Earlier today I test rode a 2018 Harley-Davidson Fatboy motorcycle.  I still prefer my 2005 H-D Fatboy however.  The new bike rides and sounds like a Jap... • San Pedro 1865 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley 2014

    Snoothrank:

Inviting aromas of black fruit and dark spice, with crushed flower petals and expressive black currant jam notes. In the mouth this is approachable, clean and fruity - full of blackberry, black currant and black cherry flavors, thick, chunky tannins and a smoky, dry and oaky finish. Good texture, balance and full fruit. Very nice. 89 pts Read More

  • Changyu Cabernet Sauvignon Shandong China 2000

    Snoothrank:

Cork is in excellent shape. For 18 years old wine it's very refreshing in general thanks to good acidity. I would say it's better than 2003. Medium body, with pretty much standard old wine set of sluggish strawberry, blueberry, tobacco leather and minerality...long strawberry aftertaste. Nice wine for a good price. Read More

  • Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

    Snoothrank:

Brooding blackberry and black currant fruit with a soft note of fresh earth and minerality, lightly floral and inviting. Generous black cherry, blackberry and black currant fruit palate is medium-full bodied but still approachable, nicely spiced and weighty with pleasant floral and mixed berry fruit notes towards the finish with a tingling acidi...
