For an avid wine drinker, some major elements of the Cabernet Sauvignon are worth noting. The most distinctive element of Cabernet Sauvignon is its black currant aroma, which is present in all its wines worldwide.

Cabernet Sauvignon on Snooth

  • Concha Y Toro Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva Chile 2016

    Snoothrank:

Lightly herbal and red fruit notes of cherry and raspberry. A bit tart and somewhat astringent on the palate with more red fruit - raspberry, cherry and red currant with some black fruit notes of plum and blackberry as well. Approachable and ready to drink with a grip of tannin on the finish and some chocolate and coffee notes. Read More

  • Frei Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Alexander Valley 2015

    Snoothrank:

Creamy dark chocolate and vanilla extract aromas, oaky and full aromas with blackberries and black currant preserves. A bit of tartness on the palate to start with a creamy texture throughout, grainy tannins and milk chocolate with blackberry jam towards the finish and a fruity, vanilla palate that finishes with good length and depth. 89 pts Read More

  • Zichichi Cabernet Sauvignon Pyramid Vineyard 2013

    Snoothrank:

Very dark in the glass. Nose of dark fruit. Dark fruit on entryblackberry, blueberry. Still quite stiff tannin. With the acid content, I think this one would be fine laying sideways for a few more years. Read More

  • San Pedro 1865 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley 2014

    Snoothrank:

Inviting aromas of black fruit and dark spice, with crushed flower petals and expressive black currant jam notes. In the mouth this is approachable, clean and fruity - full of blackberry, black currant and black cherry flavors, thick, chunky tannins and a smoky, dry and oaky finish. Good texture, balance and full fruit. Very nice. 89 pts Read More

  • Villa S. Andrea Chianti Classico 2013

    Snoothrank:

Friendly, fruity aromas of perky cherry, blueberry and allspice with some restrained earth showing on the nose. The tart muted cranberry fruit, toasted char and mineral earth on the palate is quite striking for its lack of fruit after the expansive fruit on the nose. Read More

Fresh fruit notes of cherry and red currant on the nose with pleasant spice and a creamy vanilla note. Expressive red fruit flavors on the palate with more zesty spice, chewy tannins and a bit of oak on the finish. 89 pts Read More

  • Barone Ricasoli Chianti Classico Riserva 2013

    Snoothrank:

Dark plum and black currant aroams with savory earth encrusted with minerals, dried flowers and herbs. Restrained and tight in the mouth, dry and dusty on entry but developing nicely on the palate with black cherry and cranberry fruit, becoming quite expressive through the midpalate before releasing a pleasant spice and a creamy texture towards ... • I've just become interested in wine recently and still trying to figure out my palate. Any suggestions for something fairly inexpensive (under $10 or $15) and maybe a couple in the $25-$30 range? I've been told I have fairly mature taste for a newbie. I enjoy cabernet sauvignon and merlot, a thicker richer wine. Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Is there someone who can write a description for this varietal similar to the one for Pinot Noir? I loved reading that one, and would love to read about many different grapes. Please point me in the write direction if I am looking in the wrong place. Gantt
