“King of the Red Wine Grapes.” The colonizer of the vineyards, pushing native wine grapes into its shadows. The Cabernet Sauvignon is wildly popular in wine regions throughout both the Old World and New World. Its most intimate roots trace back to the Bordeaux Wine Region in Southern France.

For an avid wine drinker, some major elements of the Cabernet Sauvignon are worth noting. The most distinctive element of Cabernet Sauvignon is its black currant aroma, which is present in all its wines worldwide.

Cabernet Sauvignon on Snooth

  • "This Madison County, Virginia red blend started off half way decent but ... ... specifically a 2010 Grey Cabernet Sauvignon that was very nice.  We tasted this wine at a Chilean wine class few years ago at the Washington Wine Academy.  It took a while to get the wines in from the winery, but several months later they did arrive and they are w... • Early Mountain Vineyards Red Vine 2012

    Snoothrank:

This Virginia red blend started off half way decent but faded fast. A blend of 38% Merlot, 27% Cab Franc, 14% Malbec, 11% Cab Sauv and 10% Petit Verdot, initial impression came across with some red berries, a touch of earth and a hint of oak. All of this dissipated fairly quickly leaving a hint of fruit, slightly chalky tannins and medium short ... Read More

  • I'm drinking the last bottle of a cheap Cabernet Sauvignon this afternoon after enjoying a ride on my Harley Fat Boy.  The weather out here in Northern Virginia has been very nice recently and the remainder of this week is predicted to be nice too.  Nice out here means lower humidity, but that's something the people in California really need rig... • Catena Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

    Snoothrank:

A bit dusty and earthy on the nose, mostly dark fruit character of blackberry. In the mouth this is fairly clean and medium bodied, with some dark oak and dark chocolate creeping in toward the finish after waves of blackberry and some fresh acidity to brighten the palate. Read More

  • Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

    Snoothrank:

Explosively bright aromas are full of fruit and are distinctively grapey yet still hold a dimension of other more classic raspberry and cherry fruit with an underlying heat and spice. Round and full in the mouth, this is quite approachable in style yet still elegant, with ripe red and blue fruit taking the lead and showcasing the spice and oak f... Read More

  • I've just become interested in wine recently and still trying to figure out my palate. Any suggestions for something fairly inexpensive (under $10 or $15) and maybe a couple in the $25-$30 range? I've been told I have fairly mature taste for a newbie. I enjoy cabernet sauvignon and merlot, a thicker richer wine. Thanks for any suggestions.
