Slovenia is a small wine country with a interesting mixture of influences and climatic conditions. In the north eastern wine growing region of PODRAVJE (named after the Drava river), the wines are more Austrian...

For me it goes cabernet sauvignon / cab-merlot, zinfandel, malbec, shiraz, and grenache, tempranillo, and sangiovese are all in the same ball park. I don't have much experience with the Italian wines so it looks like that...

Can't go wrong at this price point for an all around cab. No disappointments.

Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvigon Grand Estate 2006

Starting at $12.99 Snoothrank: 3/5

Agree with most of the discription. Overall, I enjoyed the wine. Great for everyday drinking. A little too much oak for my taste, but otherwise it was well-balanced.Got it for much cheaper than the msrp, so it was a...

In the glass this powerful Napa Cab shows a deep ruby core that fades to a thin bright garnet rim. The nose displays aromas of blackberry jam, tobacco, sweet spice, scortched earth and the signature cabernet herbal note....

For reds: Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon as long as they are ten years old or more. I have some older Barolo I have yet to try, but what I've had in the past I have liked. So add Nebbiolo to the list. And Sangiovese,...

Well you got me going, Greg, so I went back and looked at my wine purchases over the past year. My online/mailorder purchases were exactly 24 cases. 12 from US producers and 12 from those in the rest of the wine world....

Is there someone who can write a description for this varietal similar to the one for Pinot Noir? I loved reading that one, and would love to read about many different grapes. Please point me in the write direction if I am looking in the wrong place.

Clear it

A very leathery, grapey nose with some notes of cough syrup. Its a more restrained wine than I'm used to from Chile, there's a lot of fruit on the finish, but it's slow to start. Still very young and tight, with a green medicinal finish. Needs time"

I'd not had a cab from this area of Chile, although I've had plenty from Chile in general. Way too young to form the best impression, there was a lot of tight tannins, but it's quite an over ripe wine too - the licorice and cough syrup came through. We'll see if anyone had a better experience.

From Mike Pobega:
Greetings! Lets have some fun. I propose that the weekend of March 6th, 7th, and 8th be our first Virtual Tasting Weekend, themed 'The Cabernets of Chile'.
The plan is simple: just choose a cabernet from the chosen region, open it & note on it here at Snooth and we can discusss it beyond that.
Lets start with Cabernets of Chile, a region I am not as familiar with myself.
We will go around the world from here.....
