History of the grape: References to it in the Loire region of France date as far back as the mid 12th century. But its historic moment came In the 17th century when Cardinal Richelieu selected it for the garden of Abbaye de St. Nicolas de Bourgeuil, where it was attended by an abbot named Breton (hence the local synonym). • La Chevallerie Vieilles Vignes Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil 2010

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine from a Stand at the London France Show back in ... Bruneau and consists of 100% cabernet franc from old vines. .I started my bottle last night with my supper of turkey breast and bacon and I did enjoy it. There is plenty of an almost tart raspberry style fruit there with some soft tannins that give the perfect stru... Read More

  • Craggy Range "Te Kahu" Bordeaux Blend Gimblett Gravels 2009

    Snoothrank:

Boy is this good. Bourdeaux all the way. You'll want meat with this. Blackberries, plum, vanilla, earthy/herbal notes and oak round out the nose. Chewy tannins the rachet up not only the fruit, but the intensity of the mouthfeel in general. The taste is well defined with pleasing fruit with additional cinnamon and mocha to round out the palate. ... Read More

  • Vinum Cellars the Scrapper Cabernet Franc 2011

    Snoothrank:

Darkly rich red currant and raspberry fruit aromas with good baking spice and black pepper and a slight note of varietally correct green herb. Nicely rich and full in the mouth, this is fruity and full bodied, showing a lot of spicy acidity, good earthiness from the chew of the tannins, and bright raspberry and black cherry fruit. • Markham Merlot Napa Valley 2010

    Snoothrank:

I stored this bottle just to see how it would hang. Nothing special, it's just that I like Markham and this bottling received less positive hype than most. A brooding dark juice with excellent viscosity, blackberry and dark cherry, chocolate and spice. Married completely now this finishes balanced and seamless. Paul 90 points Read More

  • Craggy Range Te Kahu Gimblett Gravels Vineyard 2011

    Snoothrank:

This has an odd presence for a bordeaux blend. Actually it makes me think of some pre-1997 Iyalian wines. Although there is accompanying fruit, it's more earth, spice, red cedar, anise and snappy acidity and tannins. It's a little different but it is good. drink now - Paul 88 points Read More

  • Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cépages Sonoma County 2010

    Snoothrank:

More blue than red purple color. Green woody nose with a fair amount of earthiness. Gentle hit of cassis on introduction, but lots more going on. Again, Im getting a green viney thing, but definitely not in your face. Dark chocolate with only the suggestion of bitterness. A full-bodied wine, but not a brute. On the other hand it is not a...
