Bual

Bual (or Boal) is a grape variety used in Madeira production. It is the second sweetest of the four noble Madeira grapes: Sercial, Verdelho, Bual and Malmsey. It makes medium-rich fortified wines. – Description from Rodolphe Boulanger

Bual on Snooth

  • It is possible to order online and that's pretty much the only way I buy ... sweeter one. Get Malmsey or Bual. Malmsey is good because that's what they used to drown the kids in Shakespeare's Richard III. Enticing in theory, not so much in practice. Though, my Madeira-obsessed table mate praised it highly, so I think Madeira lovers might enjoy. Read More

  • Okay, we usually don't make brisket for Rosh Hashanah, but this year the wife saw a recipe that she liked with plums and port.  So what to go with it?  Earlier, we had planned a pre-Inquisition Spanish-Jewish meal, and I was all hyped up for Spanish wine, but now I'm kind of dubious about tempranillo with this. So, Rhones?  Something higher in a... Read More
