Bourboulenc is a white wine grape variety found mostly in the French regions of Southern Rhône, Provence and Languedoc. It's prone to rot, ripens rather late, and generates tight clusters of jumbo grapes. Strong, smoky citrus, floral, and herbal notes dominate the palate, but the right level of ripeness must be achieved in order for this to happen. Bourboulenc is a high yield grape. It is high acid and low alcohol. Most of the time, Bourboulenc is used as a blending grape and is often paired with Roussanne and Grenache Blanc. You can find Bourboulenc from the following French regions: Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, Côtes du Ventoux AOC, Lirac AOC, Tavel AOC, Vacqueyras AOC, Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône-Villages AOC, Bandol AOC, Cassis AOC, and Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence AOC. It is a dominant grape variety in La Clape/Coteaux du Languedoc. Bourboulenc is an extremely old grape variety that is thought to have originated in Greece, where it is known as Asprokondoura Read more »

  • Louis Bernard Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2012

If you like the fatness and easy-drinking balance of Southern Rhone wines, this is the wine for you; slightly smoother and richer than the 2011, its blend of Grenache Blanc (dominant) Bourboulec and Viognier has peach, apricot and some floral notes with some rose petal on the palate. The finish is fairly short but expected and therefore satisfy... Read More

  • Louis Bernard Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc 2011

The 2011 edition of the well-priced Louis Bernard CdR blanc is wonderful for the patio this summer; nothing to irritate the punters; only, a little more Viognier might add some spirit (or dare I say Roussanne, as in past vintages?). Delicious, thirst-quenching with kiwi, cooking herbs and gooseberry dominant. Good value, so stock up. 85 points. Read More

  • Must admit I'm becoming a convert to this wine, I know it seems to get a lot of negative press having a reputation as a lowly ' Workhorse ' grape. but I enjoy the richness, tannins that grip you and the dense meaty flavours. I've recently had some very good ones, notably .........Paul Mas Estate Carignan Vieilles Vignes Savignac Vineyard 2010 Pa... • Chateau d'Angles 'Classique' White la Clape 2009

Famille E. Fabre has produced a very decent white based on Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc nuanced and complicated by the presence of Roussane. This wine has some of the stemmy bitterness of certain Rhone and Languedoc wines (it is from the acclaimed La Clape sub-region of the latter), but this is typical and does not much detract. Acidity is go... Read More

  • Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhones Blanc 2010

This 2010 edition of the Bernard Cotes-du-Rhone Blanc is very good if lacking ... ... of Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. And as a wine with some character, it is to be recommended with summer-caught baked fish. 86 poin Read More

  • Domaine des Sénéchaux White Rhone Blend Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2007

A blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Roussanne that saw some time in barriques. This is as old as Ive taken my CdP blancs, and I did so with this bottle as a trial of curiosity. Pale yellow colour with developed nose of spritzy pear and lime skins. A dry, medium-bodied wine which still retains a good amount of rich acidity. Clea... Read More
