Main Regions: Portugal (Douro Valley, Madeira); France (Jura); California.

 

Description: Bastardo is a classic grape for Port production and is also used for red table wines in the Jura, France. It has high sugar levels when ripe and a tight structure wrapped with firm tannins.

 

Characteristics: Body: (Full);  Flavors & Smells Of: (Deep black cherry, red fruits, earth).

 

Wine Styles: Dry Red, Fortified.

 

Origin: Portugal

 

Notes:

-Bastardo is also used to make full-bodied red table wines in Dao, Portugal.
