Airén

Airén is a white Vinifiera variety, and is by acreage the most widely grown grape in the world. Native to Spain, this grape represents nearly 30% of grapes grown. However, these plantings are typically at low density, and the resulting wines can be bland and overly acidic. As such its principle use is in the manufacture of brandy, and many plantings are being uprooted in favor of planting red wine varieties. The varietal is most abundant in the DOs of Valdepenas and La Mancha.

Flavors: Apple, Citrus, Nut, Rose
Region(s): La Mancha

What major "wine" city lies adjacent to the Fleurieu Peninsula?2. Houghton's White Burgundy (now called White Classic), an Australian staple and best-seller for 70 years, is a dry whi... Read More

  • Lopez de Heredia Vina Cubillo Crianza 2005

    Snoothrank:

This 2005 Airen has a clear, bright, yellow-straw color. There are flowery aromas on the nose, with intense pineapple and green apple notes. The palate is well structured, with body and class balancing the wine's acidity and freshness, ending with a long, persistent and sweet finish. This classic white wine is from Aresan's own 50 year old viney... Read More
