for this grape?

Airén is a white Vinifiera variety, and is by acreage the most widely grown grape in the world. Native to Spain, this grape represents nearly 30% of grapes grown. However, these plantings are typically at low density, and the resulting wines can be bland and overly acidic. As such its principle use is in the manufacture of brandy, and many plantings are being uprooted in favor of planting red wine varieties. The varietal is most abundant in the DOs of Valdepenas and La Mancha.
Flavors: Apple, Citrus, Nut, Rose
Region(s): La Mancha

  • Bodegas Aresan Airén Viño de la Tierra de Castilla 2005

Plenty of toasty French oak on the nose is met with notes of dried herbs, fresh leather, tobacco, sweet dark berry fruit, cinnamon, licorice and seared beef. In the mouth, bright acids and nice firm tannins are buried in a core of sweet and sour Jolly Rancher grapy fruit with hints of pomegranate. A little black currant and some black plum notes...
